The crop is now about 60 cm tall and about 90% of plants have started flowering, but root growth seems to be inhibited by subsoil constraints, and they only go down 10-15 cm. The crop may have been unable to access moisture stored from last year's fallow due to the short rooting depth. Maximum daily temperatures in the past week have ranged from 20 to 27 degrees, so the crop has been developing and growing rapidly, and is once again wilting. Some showers are forecast this week, but also expected to be warm and next week is expected to be dry.
